There is not much drama left in the Ryzen 5 3600 market, and that is itself the story. Sold prices have barely moved in seven and a half weeks, and the one variable that actually swings the number is whether a cooler is thrown in. Worth knowing before you buy a stack of them.

Price range

The median (£49.99) and the mean (£49.98) sit a single penny apart, which is about as tidy as this kind of data ever gets. The £60.86 spread top to bottom looks wide, but that is the extremes doing the work; most sales cluster tightly between £42 and £58.

Price trend

The weekly median line barely leaves a £46 to £55 corridor for the whole window: early-half £49.96, late-half £49.99. That is under 5p of movement across seven and a half weeks. There is a soft dip to around £46 in mid-June, but it recovers by month’s end and the last few weeks look identical to the first few.

For a budget chip this old, holding a price this flat is the notable part. It has already found its floor.

The dataset

I looked at real eBay UK sold listings from 24 May to 14 Jul 2026 and ended up with 144 clean Ryzen 5 3600 comps. These are pre-owned, working chips with a real buyer-paid total, not asking prices.

The naming here was unusually clean for a used-CPU pull: no wrong models, no dead-on-arrival chips, nobody sneaking a 3600X or a 2600 into the results. The one thing sellers are inconsistent about is whether a cooler is in the box. Sixty listings named a specific cooler, mostly the stock Wraith Stealth. Nine explicitly said “no cooler.” The rest just did not say, and I treated anything short of an explicit mention as “cannot assume you are getting one,” which is the safer read for a buyer.

What the outliers show

Two sales sit well outside the pack. The £20.77 sale on 2 June is the cheapest by a wide margin, nearly £14 under the next-lowest comp, with nothing in the listing claiming a fault. Treat it as a curiosity, not a bargain you can expect to repeat. The £81.63 sale on 10 July is the mirror image: the most anyone paid, for a listing that reads no differently from chips selling for £45. Somebody overpaid, or there is context missing from the title.

And the headline number here is not really an outlier at all: comps with a confirmed cooler had a median of £55.20, about £5 above the bare-chip median of £49.99. That is a small but real premium, useful to know whether you are bundling a spare cooler into a listing or selling it on its own.

What is a good buy price?

Work back from the £49.99 median. Take off £4 for postage, nothing for fees if you sell privately, an £8 cushion for condition surprises, and a flat £20 minimum profit, and the textbook formula lands you at about £18. Do not trust that number: only one chip in 144 sold anywhere near it, and that was the suspicious £20.77 outlier above. A £20 profit target is a big bite out of a sub-£50 part.

A more realistic profit target for something this cheap is £10 to £12, which gives a workable good buy price of £26 to £28.

Is it worth buying for a build?

Most of the time you are not flipping this chip on its own, you are dropping it into a rig you will build and sell. That changes the maths. The Ryzen 5 3600 anchors a tidy budget 1080p (and decent 1440p) AM4 gaming PC, paired with something like an RX 6600 or an RTX 3060. AM4 boards and DDR4 are dirt cheap secondhand right now, so the whole platform cost stays low.

So getting the chip in at £26 to £28 is less about a single-part margin and more about protecting the profit on the whole build. Treat the solo resale as your floor, not the goal. Do not pitch this as a long upgrade runway either; AM4 is winding down against AM5, so the value is cheap and ready today, not years of headroom.

What to check before you buy

• A stated boot test or benchmark screenshot, or (one seller genuinely did this) a mining hashrate reading as proof it posts
• Clear confirmation of whether a cooler is included, since that is worth roughly £5 either way
• No mention of bent pins or “sold as seen, no returns”
• Sensible postage for something small enough to post in a jiffy bag safely

Boxed only matters cosmetically here; it is not moving the price much on its own.

The catch

This is 204 rows from one marketplace over 7.5 weeks. It does not capture cash-in-hand local deals, and eBay’s “sold” price is not always the full story on best-offer listings. The biggest blind spot is the cooler question: a third of sellers did not say either way, so “bare-chip median” here really means “median for chips where you cannot assume a cooler,” not a guaranteed bare-chip price.
